About Yourself/Explanation of What You Do:  School Nurse

The Jane McEvoy School Health Program is a collaboration among Metro Nashville Public Schools, Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, and University Community Health Services.  The program began in 1995 at Fall-Hamilton Elementary School.  The health center at Park Avenue School became part of this program in 2001.

Our school nurse/nurse practitioner team are an active part of Park Avenue’s Coordinated School Health Project, and offer a full range of school nursing, health education, health promotion, case management, and primary care services to children at our school regardless of ability to pay.  Examples of these services include: giving prescribed medications and medical procedures: screening for healthy growth; identifying and treating asthma flares; checking for strep throat or urinary tract infections and getting students started on antibiotics quickly when needed; giving flu shots; doing camp and school physical exams; providing education and counseling about nutrition for children and parents.
